four letter words

Well, it only took 4 months...
Sorry little love, second child problems are setting in. We let the month come and go without getting a complete photo shoot of you. I know you were utterly disappointed that you didn't have to pose naked in a basket or try your hardest to sit up for hours upon hours until Mommy declared we had the perfect shot. I apologize for letting you down.  #fail

No worries I know you forgive me, and the best news is there's always next month. I will do my best to make all of your wishes come true. More pictures to document your growth all while trying to keep you from spitting up everywhere and your sister from being jealous she's not in every picture. Always be a dreamer, my love, always.  #wish

Speaking of your sister, please don't compare the number of pictures we have of her with the ones we have of you. I admit...it's not the same. It's not because we love her more. It's because life is busy with two kids, and that's just the facts. You are loved way more than you will ever know. Just believe me on that truth.  #love

It's hard to believe you have already been with us for four months. It's hard to imagine life without you. You are a special little boy, and we are so thankful for you. Right now, I love watching you interact with your sister. You light up when you see her or when she gets in your face and talks to you. And, never doubt her love for you. It's fierce. She always wants to know where you are and what you're doing. She loves being a little mama to you. I can't wait to watch your relationship grow and develop. It's going to be special.  #four

At four months, you...
weigh 14 pounds 7 ounces
measure 26 3/8 inches
roll all over the place

one, two, three

Three things I'm thankful for this month...

1. MEDICINE
Thank you Lord that Gavin's reflux medicine helped! Our little man dropped from the 80% in weight to the 25% in one month. That on top of his constant fussiness prompted our doctor to start him on some medicine. After one month, he jumped back up to the 35% in weight and his fussiness is improving. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

2. SUNSHINE
Little Miss loves to be outside, so we are thankful that the warmer temperatures and sunshine are back. It's amazing what a little sunshine and playing outside can do for the soul. Gavin loves being outside too. He's content on a blanket while sister prefers to run, play hide and seek, or color with chalk. Thank you Lord for your beautiful creation and the joy sunshine brings to all!

3. CRAIG
Gavin has not been an easy baby, and Miriam has been a typical 2 year old most days. So as you can imagine, I have been a little stressed and overwhelmed. I am so thankful for Craig, and that I don't have to do this parenting thing alone. He has been my constant support and helper. He has insisted on watching the kids so I can just get out of the house at times. Thank you Lord for providing an understanding husband with a kind spirit and servant heart.

At three months, you...
weigh 13 pounds
measure 25 inches
love to suck on your hands
squirm & move constantly
sleep 6-8 hours at night

twice as nice

His two little hands are always in his mouth, and his two little feet love to kick and squirm. His two little eyes are constantly watching big sister, and his two little ears are told time and time again how much he is loved. TWO. MONTHS.

Her two little hands are constantly moving while she talks, and her two little feet love to run and spin in circles. Her two little eyes constantly watch Minnie, puppies, or Lella, and her two little ears are told over and over again what a miracle she is. TWO. YEARS.

My two hands are never free, but I wouldn't trade the cuddles or tickles or constant movement for anything. My two feet are busy chasing one around the house and doing whatever it takes to keep the other one from screaming. My two eyes are amazed at the love I witness every day between a brother and a sister. My two ears are reminded daily how blessed I am to be the mother of these two children. Twice the fun. Twice the stress. Twice the love. Twice the crazy. THIRTY-TWO. YEARS.

At two months, you...
weigh 11 pounds & 5 ounces
measure 24 1/8 inches
started reflux medicine
have great head control
love time on your play mat
sleep 6-8 hours at night

Differences

It's hard to believe that one month has already flown by with our little guy. The one word that sticks out to me this month is... different. Life has been different this time around. Maybe it's because we knew (more of) what to expect. Maybe it's because we are being more flexible. Maybe it's God showing us His awesome power through His creation. It's a combination of so many things, but we are thankful for our sweet blessing. Some of the differences I've noticed... Gavin spits up a whole lot more than Miriam, changing boy diapers is way more difficult, sleeping more at night...thanks to the little guy for going longer between feeds, taking him on more outings (did you see his picture in the Stanley Cup??...need I say more??),  adjusting better to life as a family of four than we did as a family of three, and the list goes on. Although there are many differences, one thing remains the same. We thank God daily for our precious family.

At one month, you...
weigh 10 pounds
measure 22 1/2 inches
love cuddling with Mommy & Daddy
like watching Big Sister & hearing her sing
enjoy riding in your car seat

This picture makes me smile and sums up life right now. One child is typically happy, loving life while the other one is crying and in need of some attention. Miriam has adjusted well and is a great big sister. She loves being my helper, letting me know when Gavin is crying, and giving lots of kisses, hugs, and high fives. They already have a special bond, and I know they will be great friends as they grow.

SNOW Day

6 Beautiful Inches

Nashville enjoyed a winter wonderland and the largest snowfall in 13 years. It was beautiful, and we soaked up every minute we could outside. We played like little kids, because it may be a long time before we get another snow like that. We made snow angels and a snowman, although Miriam was happy just watching us do the work. She loved to be pulled in her sled in the backyard as well as chase Tucker Bear. She even went sledding with some friends. Gavin was content inside where it was nice and warm under his cozy blanket.

Little Miss wasn't bothered by the cold

Maybe next time

Daddy built me a snowman

Mommy pulled me in my sled

Party of 4

With joy and thanksgiving, we welcome our newest love, Gavin Thomas. He arrived on Saturday, January 9 at 4:07 a.m. weighing 9 pounds 4 ounces and measuring 21 1/4 inches long. We praise God for a healthy baby and for an incredible blessing to our family!

Big Sis is adjusting well, and my heart melts to see the love she has for him. She loves to help with everything...finding his paci, getting his blanket, rocking him when he cries, and the list goes on and on. She is constantly hugging and kissing on him as well as trying to give him high fives. Their bond is already so special, and I can't wait to watch it grow and develop.

As I look at this family picture, I am reminded of the song "Sovereign" by Chris Tomlin.
In your never failing love
You work everything for good
God whatever comes my way
I will trust you

Just the Two of Us

For the first time in forever... Craig and I went on a vacation, and we left our sweet baby at home with the grandparents. Oh don't worry, one minute. I can guarantee she had more fun with them than had she been with us. She was loved on and spoiled rotten for over a week, and we are thankful for the help we received to make this trip possible. The trip was a dream come true for me!

So my sweet, loving, thoughtful husband surprised me in December with a trip to Vancouver for the Women's World Cup. I was beyond excited! Well, the more we started talking the bigger the trip became. Go big or go home, right?? We decided to spend a little over a week in Seattle & Vancouver. The trip did not disappoint, and as much as we missed our sweet little one, it was a wonderful vacation. There is no way to include all of the pictures or details of all the events, so I will just highlight our time in both cities.

Seattle...
Pike's Place Market: I would go every day if I was a local.
Sounders Game: Our first MLS game did not disappoint. Fun atmosphere!
Underground Tour: Great history on the Seattle fire & how the city rebuilt. Very neat tour!
Klondike Gold Rush National Park: Smallest national park but very well done
Chihuly Gardens: Hard to put into words the amazing work of these glass sculptures. Beautiful!
Boeing Tour: Impressive!
Ferry to Bainbridge Island: Incredible views of the city & cute shops.
Mariners Game: Craig loved checking another ball park off the list
Spending time with Mary Brook, Graig, & Maggie: Priceless!!

Vancouver...
Amtrak: Perfect way to travel from Seattle to Vancouver with amazing views
Fox Sports live studio: Enjoyed watching live shows & seeing the set
Pre-Match Party: Fun atmosphere! Mia Hamm led "I Believe..." chant
Granville Island Markets: Not exactly what we expected, a little disappointing
Stanley Park: Horse carriage tour provided lots of history & pretty sights
World Cup Game: USA vs Nigeria...Incredible experience
Capilano Suspension Bridge: 450 ft bridge, a little more wobbly than I expected
Grouse Mountain: Beautiful views of Vancouver
Lion King: Opening night, always a great show

Well, that was a very quick recap of an incredible trip. Thank you to Craig for planning a wonderful trip for just the two of us and for continuing to pour out his love to me. Thank you to our amazing parents who kept our little girl and made her week so much fun! Thank you to Mary Brook & Graig for being great hosts and tour guides in Seattle and for taking time out of their busy schedules to spend time with us. We are incredibly blessed!
